![]() "Employee of the Month" for January 2010 | Mr. Bocka was the lead mechanic working the Accommodation Ladder Winches on board the USS Carter Hall when we were notified that the ship would be leaving early to provide humanitarian aid to Haiti. This job was exceptionally demanding due to the poor condition of the equipment and the short time frame given to complete the task. The equipment was so badly corroded that many of the fasteners had to be drilled out and tapped, which had already pushed us into working the weekend to be able to complete the job by Friday. When notified that the ship would be leaving Thursday at noon we expected that the best we could do would be to have one winch operational and the second one bolted in place but not complete. Due in large part to the extra efforts and time of Francis as the Lead Mechanic the ship got underway a day and a half early with 2 operational winches. |
